SERENA at the ADR UK Conference 2025

SERENA participated in the Administrative Data Research (ADR) UK Conference 2025, held at Swansea University in Cardiff on 17–18 September 2025.

During the conference, SERENA research on child physical abuse and hospitalisation trends across Europe was presented, contributing to discussions on the use of administrative data for child protection and public health research.

Contributions from SERENA partners

Laura Cowley from Swansea University (WP3) delivered an oral presentation entitled “Hospitalisations for physical abuse in infants and children less than 5 years, 2013–2021: A multinational cohort study using administrative data from five European countries.”

The presentation explored hospitalisation patterns related to physical abuse among children under five across five European countries between 2013 and 2021. Using administrative data, the study provided comparative insights into child protection and healthcare responses at an international level.

Impact and outcomes

Participation in the ADR UK Conference 2025 strengthened SERENA’s engagement with the international administrative data research community and promoted knowledge exchange with policy makers, governmental agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

The presentation generated useful feedback and questions that were shared with the wider SERENA team, contributing to ongoing work within the project. The event also facilitated new networking opportunities, including contact with Dr Eliazar Luna, who may potentially contribute to WP8 in the future, subject to additional funding.
