SERENA project (website under construction)
Assessing and improving access to health and social care services for children rendered vulnerable by Abuse

An Horizon Europe R&D project funded by the European Commission
SERENA is a project funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Health program under grant agreement 101151854. Started on January 2025 for five years, it gathers 21 European partners.
Child maltreatment remains a widespread and underreported issue across Europe. Despite existing health and social care services, many children continue to face barriers to access effective support.
The SERENA project aims to improve access to services across Europe.
Through assessments of current barriers to access, SERENA will identify key actions to improve maltreatment detection (physical, sexual, psychological abuse and neglect), management, and reduce long-term consequences.
To support this ambition, assessments of current care pathways and of the barriers and inequalities when accessing these services will be made. Our assessments will rely on a mixed-method approach combining qualitative analyses in 3 EU countries and quantitative analyses.
The project will generate recommendations to influence policy and practice in order to improve health and social care services for children victims of maltreatment throughout Europe.
